Did you know Eurail pass prices are set by the European Commission - Rail & Transport? This means all vendors must sell Eurail & Britrail passes at pretty much the same price.  They never go 'on sale'!

We've rated two of the most reputable sites and compared them to a higher priced one so you can decide. Whichever you go with, you are guaranteed no lower fares exist anywhere else...

Q: What currency are prices in?

Q:  What is Eurorail or Euro rail?

A: They are Eurail! (These are the older names for it)

Q:  I’ve heard it’s cheaper to buy city-to-city passes rather than a Eurail Pass?

A: This is one of the biggest misconceptions out there. People who try to “save” money by buying city to city passes throughout Europe inevitably regret it.

While it may indeed be cheaper if you are visiting only one country  (check city-to-city tickets here or here) and don’t plan to travel much within that country, the advantages a Eurail pass has over city to city tickets:

-          You can buy Eurail passes in advance therefore you can plan your trip better

-          You eliminate foreign currency exchange fluctuations

-          You lock in the price the moment you order your pass

-          No language confusion

-          No waiting in lines

-          Time saved

A Eurail pass holder can jump on and off and switch between trains as they please. Compare this to fumbling with phrase books and the delays that come with trying to ‘save’ money while trying to enjoy your travel around Europe!

Quite frankly, if you are going to really enjoy Europe, a Eurail pass gives you convenience, simplicity and peace of mind.

Q:  Is there a big difference between 1st and 2nd class?

A: If you are traveling longer distances and comfort is essential, then of course we recommend first class. It’s more spacious (quieter too) with fewer seats per compartment. The seats are noticeably larger, plusher and give you greater comfort than 2nd class. Also, you get more room for your luggage. See how you go, depending on the pass – sometimes there isn’t a whole lot of difference between 1st and 2nd class prices.

Q: Ok, so once I get to Europe, how do I use my pass?

A: It’s really simple: Present your rail pass and passport at the ticket window so they can validate it before you board. You only need to do this the first time. You can then travel all day long according to your pass*. If you have a Flexipass, you will need to fill in the date box for the day you travel.

*Spain, France & Italy are exceptions. You will be required to line up and purchase different reservations on some fares.

Q:  Can I have my pass shipped to a different country?

A: Sure can! But first, be sure your pass is valid for the country you live in. For example, if you are a resident of UK, Europe, Turkey, Morocco and Tunisia you can’t buy a Eurail pass no matter where you get it shipped. But other than that, just be sure to provide a contact number.

Q:  What’s with the 7:00pm rule for overnight trains?

A: If you board a direct overnight train that leaves after 7:00pm, you use 1 day. If you go through a train change before midnight, you use 2 travel days. Plan accordingly!

Q: Can I use my Eurail pass for local city travel?

A: No – city, subway and bus aren’t included in 99% of cases. There are some exceptions like  the S-Bahn in Germany and Austria. But for the most part, plan to buy daily passes for local city travel.

Q:  Are sleeper compartments extra?

A: Yes, you will have to purchase these – they are not part of your Eurail pass price.

Q: Ok, so if I buy my Eurail pass today – when does it actually “start”?

A: It starts from the moment you validate it at the train station in Europe.

Q:  What currency are the prices?

A: All prices are in $USD.

Q: After getting the Euro rail pass for the 8 days that I want, how do I go about actually reserving seats on the dates I want and getting confirmation that these dates and reservations are actually available? Further, how do I know which trains to select. Where do I get a list/ timings etc?

A: To search for reservations, you simply need to visit the fares and schedules page here. Be sure to click the box that says "I have a railpass" at the bottom - this will prompt the system to display available pass holder reservations.  You will see all available departure/arrival times once you enter your city pairs into the search box

.

Q: I'm on a very tight schedule, do you issue e-tickets that I can pick up at the station? How long does shipping take?

A: There are no e-ticket options at the moment for Eurail passes. Please be sure to plan ahead as shipping takes approximately 3-5 days.

Q: I'm flying into Amsterdam, Holland and want to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark and Prague, Czech Republic. Which pass do I have to purchase to accommodate my travel plans.  Is there a way to accomplish this with one particular type of Eurail Pass?

A: The best passes to cover your suggested itinerary would be the 3 Country Eurail Select Pass for Denmark, Germany and the Benelux (Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg) along with a Prague Excursion Pass.  The seat reservations and/or sleeping compartments would be an additional cost.

Q: Can I make the Exchange Order after entering Japan by using the invoice received by email, and without waiting to receive anything physical by regular mail?

A: You cannot purchase an Exchange Order inside Japan! It is strictly for outside visitors who must bring their Exchange Orders with them before entering Japan. In order to receive your Japan Rail Pass, you need to take your Exchange Order to an applicable Japan Rail station, upon arrival in Japan, which has a Japan Rail Pass exchange office. They will then give you your pass.

Q: I'm flying into Amsterdam, Holland and want to travel to Copenhagen, Denmark and Prague, Czech REepublic. Which pass do I purchase to accommodate my travel plans?

A: The best passes to cover your suggested itinerary would be the 3 Country Eurail Select Pass for Denmark, Germany and the Benelux (Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg) along with a Prague Excursion Pass.

Q: What currency are prices?

A: All prices are in $USD.
