A Eurail Global Pass is a deluxe way for travelers who reside outside Europe to enjoy unlimited rail travel throughout most European countries, enjoying the sights of many different destinations. It is ideal for those planning to visit 6 countries or more, travel by train and want maximum flexibility. As well as saving money compared to individual rail fares, the Eurail Global Pass is flexible if your itinerary changes.

A Eurail Global Pass can be purchased for a continuous period of 15 days, 21 days, 1 month, 2 months or even 3 months. It is also available as a Flexi-pass which gives 10 or 15 days unlimited first class travel within a two month period. Simply fill in the date you decide to travel in one of the open date boxes and hop onboard; the conductor will validate the date. Days are normally counted from midnight to midnight with an exception for travelers boarding an overnight sleeper train after 7pm , when only the arrival date is counted.

The Eurail Global Pass covers first class train travel on all normal scheduled trains operated by national rail networks in each participating country. However it does not cover the Underground or Metro, small private rail companies such as the Jungfraubahn or the high-speed Eurostar which runs through the Channel Tunnel.

The first time you use your Eurail Global Pass , it must be validated at the ticket office, before getting onto any train. After that, hop on as you wish and simply produce your Eurail Global Pass when the conductor requests it. As with standard Eurail passes, seat reservations are a good idea to guarantee a seat and cost a few euros. A few tourist routes in the Netherlands and Belgium and most trains in France , Italy , Spain , Portugal and Sweden do require compulsory seat reservations. Timetables will indicate where this is required by marking the routes with an “R”.

There are discounts when purchasing a Eurail Global Pass if two or more people are traveling together, and a student price is available for travelers over the age of 12 and under 26, although they must travel second class.

Each participating country offers bonuses for Eurail Global Pass holders. For example, in Austria boat trips on Lake Constance offer a 50% reduction. In France , Eurail Global Pass holders get free travel in Paris on the RER underground and in Germany pass holders can travel free on S-Bahn trains. Checkout the countries you plan to visit and add up some considerable bonuses by showing your Eurail Global Pass.
